New hotmail space

Microsoft is now offering its hotmail storage similar like yahoo. I just found that its live spaces is more interesting than this blog. I am still evaluating the live spaces of mine (and have a thought of moving to it). My spaces can be accessed at http://cikgusir.spaces.live.com/

Guys! If you all have msn or hotmail account, you can also register for the space. Then we can connect our blog...Oh... one more important thing... you have to have an hotmail account (e-mail account at least) to give comment/feedback to any post. You can get it from here or here.

The other way is you just e-mail me your comment if you do not have any hotmail/MSN account, then I'll put the comment in the blog. My email is e_jarl@hotmail.com

p/s: I just found it is best to be viewed with Internet Explorer 6.0 >. If you use mozilla firefox certain features may not be available.

Selingkar Kisah...Antara Shakespeare & Ahmad Jais

Kebetulan?

Shall I compare thee to a summer day? (padahal hari ni hujan renyai)... Thou art more lovely and more temperate, Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May (padahal bulan ni bulan November@Syawal)... And summer's lease hath all too short a date, sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines, and often is his gold complexion dimm'd:

seterusnya korang sambung le sendiri kalau ingat...
Kemudian sedang SONNET 18 ni berputar-putar mengimbau kenangan silam, tetiba la pulak stesen radio yang aku pasang tadi memutarkan lagu AHMAD JAIS yang bertajuk, UMPAN JINAK DI AIR TENANG... lebih kurang macam ni la bunyinya..

Madah berbunga alun suara
Terdengar merdu hanya dendangan
Wajah yang indah ditatap saja
Hati yang satu di gadai jangan

Jangan tergoda bintang di awan
Kalau terbitnya di siang hari
Jinak merpati makan di tangan
Jangan di kurung di sangkar hati

Seribu senyum seribu madah
Mungkin di kuntum racun yang bisa
Kalau terkorban jiwa merana
Seribu sesal apa gunanya

Merdu di dengar indah di pandang
Awaslah umpan di air tenang
Kasih dan budi bukan mainan
Tergadai hati jiwa tebusan

Habis je penyanyi lagu tu menyanyikan lirik lagu yang macam perli aku ni tadi, terus je lampu hijau on... so kereta belakang dah honk! honk! honk! (nasib baik tak oink! oink! oink!)... apa lagi aku pun masuk gear and press the oil (direct translation)...

Photo: (Tongkat yang dilupakan/The abandoned walking stick?)

It is not the main aim of this blog to be a hardcore political blog but since our former PM, TUN Dr. Mahathir has been criticized for his critics, I just can not hold this "heat", I feel this become disrespect to a statesman. The saddest memory of him resigned as the president of UMNO, Prime Minister and every position he held is still fresh inside me. I do not understand why all of his supporters who cried when he announced his resignation are now the persons who condemned him. The worst of it is, there are many voices that requested the UMNO supreme council to sack him out from UMNO. I have my own rationale why I believe TUN M’s critics on the present government, especially the present Prime Minister. As I have experienced how TUN M’s ideas that seemed too ambitious and unreliable are now become the most impressive and most needed. The Penang Bridge project and the PLUS Highway are the examples. I believe his mind and ideas sometimes are beyond our expectation. He did what he believed good for our country. The persons who condemned him should do some reflections before they reject his critics, not just become a YESMAN to protect their own position and to feel secured. I am not a fanatic of Tun M but please observe TUN M’s pattern of actions. He will not do something without very good reasons and consideration. I still believe that he has made good reasoning before he behaves like this, very aggressive and sarcastic. I will wait and see for what is going to happen next. Oh… the photograph above speaks thousand words about the saddest memory of mine. (Perhaps UMNO too had felt the same…)

Message from the sky

Thousands years ago, there was a message sent to a greatest and last messenger of his MASTER who rules the entire space and earth. The message was transmitted via a light made creature to alert the humankind of a greatest night which is the night of power, peace and blessing. The message was sent in arabic. Here is the message.

097.001 We have indeed revealed this (Message) in the Night of Power:

097.002 And what will explain to thee what the night of power is?

097.003 The Night of Power is better than a thousand months.

097.004 Therein come down the angels and the Spirit by Allah's permission, on every errand:

097.005 Peace!...This until the rise of morn!

The cursed and the curser

THE CURSED AND THE CURSER

They kill our brethren,

We curse them,

They invade our land,

We curse them,

They take our wealth,

We curse them,

They attack our holy land,

We curse them.

They give us pots of core-ruptious honey,

We glad,

They give us their unsewn clothes,

We glad,

They tell us their lullaby,

We sleep,

They give us their prickly heaven,

We enter,

From the heaven we see,

They kill our brethren,

We curse them,

but wait, remember the honey?

We quiet.

They invade our land,

We curse them,

but wait, remember the clothes?

We quiet.

They take our wealth,

We curse them,

but wait, remember the lullaby?

We quiet.

They attack our holy land,

We curse them.

but wait, remember the heaven?

We quiet.

There where we will stay,

There where we will wait,

forever...In the heaven

where red rivers flow beneath,

In the heaven mighty them created,

from our wealth they robbed,

from our long lost strength,

from our knowledge that we forget,

from the ancient script that we deny,

from our past unity,

let it be written in our future diary.

Muhammad bin Abdullah

Itulah serba sedikit imbasan sebelum lahirnya Nabi mulia umat manusia, MUHAMMAD S.A.W.

...AMIN...

Ihkhlas dari pengikut setia MUHAMMAD IBN ABDULLAH

Magnum Opus of this semester (perhaps...)

Differences between The Western and The Oriental Dragons.

---

Since ancient time the folklores and legends are passed on from generation to generation and still preserve till the present days. In these folklores and legends, sometimes we can notice the presence of some mysterious figures that make the folklores become more interesting. The appearance of dragons makes the folklores and legends have more spices. Dragons are considered as legendary creatures. Legendary creatures mostly appeared in many cultures and literatures all over the world. Even though the dragons appear in most of the world culture, we should know that the world did not share the same dragons.

There are three differences between the western dragons and the oriental dragons. The first difference is their symbolic representation in the culture of the world. Taking Romans as an example, Johnsgard exposes that the Romans once used a kind of flag that depicted a flying dragon figure. The figure symbolises a troop of approximately five hundred men and the function of the symbol was perhaps to frighten their opponents. He also reveals that the easterners marked their gongs and bells with elements of dragons. This is because the sound that the gongs and bells make is similar to the dragons’ behaviour where they produced loud voice when threatened. (1992:3-16). Relies on this difference it is clearly can be seen that the westerners used dragons to symbolise warning and threat while the easterners used them for the admiration of their quality.

Another disparity between both dragons is their physiques. In the western tradition, the dragons are commonly depicted in the form of tangled tail lizard-like creature and most of them have wings. Cotterel claims that this type of dragon represents wicked power of darkness and its tail showed how they used their tail arrogantly like a scorpion. In the far eastern especially the Chinese, the dragons are usually depicted as snake like creatures which their tail was about as the same size of their body. For example, the dragon symbol used by the emperors pictured a snake like dragon which has five claws and its head points to the north while its tail points to the west. (1989:56) I believe that what Cotterel claims is true. I have seen many pictures of dragons that commonly show the different physiques of both dragons.

The third difference of the western and the oriental dragons is their unique ability. The only known ability of the western dragons is they were able to fly. Even though this is unusual, it is not so special. This is very obvious because as mentioned earlier, they have wings. Usually any creature with wings can fly. In contrast the very special ability of the oriental dragons is they could resize themselves. For example, Oosterzee says that the Chinese traditionally believe that dragons could shrivel from their superlative size to as tiny as silkworm and vice versa. (1999:2). In my opinion this is amazing because none of any existing creatures can shrink.

As a conclusion, even though dragons are most prominent figures in world’s cultures they still have three distinguish differences. Behind all of the differences lies a message that tells us to get to know each other better.

Residents rudely awakened by floodwaters

SHAH ALAM: Sunday is a day for sleeping in but not yesterday. Instead, the rest day turned out to be one of anxiety for thousands of residents here who were rudely awakened at dawn by floodwaters gushing into their homes.

Two hours of heavy rain since 3.30am had resulted in Sungai Damansara overflowing its banks and the waters inundating 3,000 houses. The worst affected areas were Taman TTDI Jaya, Kampung Melayu Kebun Bunga and Kampung Melayu Subang, Kampung Baru Hicom and Batu Tiga.

Evacuation began at 7.30 am and by press time, 9,015 people had been evacuated to eight relief centres. At the Kampung Kebun Bunga community hall alone, some 1,200 people sought shelter.

In many places, floodwaters hovered around 1m high. It rose to about 2.3m in a few areas, almost reaching the roofs of single-storey homes.

Millennium Malay Man

Sir Frank Swettenham wrote in 1906, "Thirty years ago, a Malay never moved without his keris. When he bathed, he took it with him and when he slept it lay by his hand. "He gave it more attention than his wife and probably put a higher value on it. If it is a famous blade, of Bugis make and perfect in all measurements and every other test, no amount of money would buy it."

Berdasarkan pemerhatiannya itulah tanggapan Swettenham seorang orientalis.

just for fun...

O ungrateful sons of Adam, thy request is answered!

Recently I have heard many complaints on the hot weather we have had. Sometimes the complaints are too much where I felt they like arguing the God's business. Now, I feel that their request to have rain is answered. Rain falls almost everyday and some east coast states is now in flood.

Moral of the story:
Do not interupt God's business, accept it as a test. Be grateful.

Here I am at Thy service O Lord, here I am

Today is the climax of the Hajj. All pilgrims will assemble at a place named Arafat where they have to stay from midday to sunset in meditation before God. After that they will move to Muzdalifah to gather pebbles for the next ritual of throwing the collected pebbles against three stone pillars (The 3 Jumrahs: - al-Ula, al-Wusta, al-Aqabah) in the neighbouring village of Mina. This ritual is to follow the act of Prophet Ibrahim (Peace be Upon Him) resisted the temptation of satan who tried to make him disobey God's order to sacrifice his beloved son, Ismail.

The order to sacrifice Ismail was to test Prophet Ibrahim's (Peace be Upon Him) faith. God is the most compassionate and merciful won't let his obedient prophet lost his son then had ransomed Ismail with a ram. Rembering this great event, all Muslims follow this ritual during the festival of Eidul Adha. It is not the blood and the flesh God seeks for but their sincerity and devotion.

I hope one day I will be able to go to Makkah to perform my Hajj. Hopefully I can go before my age turns 60. This is what I most dream for. To be there is a completion of five pillars in Islam. It would be great if I could complete the fifth pillar that to be fulfilled once in a lifetime, the Hajj or the pilgrimage to Makkah. May God accept my request to be His guest in the Holy Land and then I will also cry this talbiyah: Labbaik Allahumma Labbaik. Labbaik, La Shareeka Laka, Labbaik. Innal Hamda, Wan Ni'matah, Laka wal Mulk, La Shareeka Lak.

This could be translated as:Here I am at Thy service O Lord, here I am. Here I am at Thy service and Thou hast no partners. Thine alone is All Praise and All Bounty, and Thine alone is The Sovereignty. Thou hast no partners, here I am.

SELAMAT HARI RAYA AIDIL ADHA TO ALL MUSLIM BROTHERS AND SISTERS

A lesson from the past...

Yesterday, I watched Pearl Harbor at TV3. The things that I have learnt from it were, be prepared for unexpected surprise (is surprise ever expected?). Always alert on whatever happened around us. Never live in satisfaction. The movie also shows us that war is the most unwanted event on earth. Those who encourage and love war are crazy and inhumane. They are brethren of terrorists. Similar in actions even though different in objectives. It could be better if we spend the large amount of expenditure in wars to fight the poverty in many 3rd world countries. Let us live in peace and harmony, out of prejudice and hatred. Let our future generations inherit world of peace and freedom. War never gives us any good. It left us with ashes and burns which mixed with our tears and cries when it over. Is this what we want our children to face? It is all in our hands to shape the future. Yes, the future is not for us to see, it belongs to the ALMIGHTY but I believe the present is the bridge to the future. So we have to think this matter wisely and learn from the past. History is the best teacher to shape our future. PEACE V!!!
